The Collection was founded in 1992 on a private archive of classical music images. It expanded to represent expert photographers in the performing arts and a number of institutions. Jazz and Rock were the next accessions, followed by Literature, Philosophy, and Drama.
Our core collection runs to great depth, covering every aspect of the life and works of creators, the opera houses and theatres where they worked, the societies they lived in and the personalities with whom they associated - from Shakespeare to Chagall and Saul Bellow to Stalin.
