Billie Holiday’s songwriter was Ronald Reagan’s wartime soldier

Don Meyer, who has died aged 93, co-wrote ‘For Heaven’s Sake’ for Billie Holiday’s last album, Lady in Satin, as well as hundreds more songs.

During the War, he was a member of the First Army Motion Picture Unit, under the command of Ronald Reagan. He was also part of of Elbie Lebrecht’s family in America. The funeral is in Hollywood this afternoon.
