Esa-Pekka Salonen will carry the Olympic torch

Esa-Pekka Salonen, the Finnish conductor, will carry the Olympic torch on its penultimate day into London.  He told the folks back home in the ‘Helsingin Sanomat’ that his triumph is a tribute to careful diet: ”A nice beer and years of ryystäminen and b-class food sausage eating will eventually be rewarded,” he says (something may have got lost here in Google translation). Trifonov debut at Wigmore Hall, London, 14 March 2012

Daniil Trifonov, the 21 year old Russian pianist and  winner of  the 2011 International Tchaikovsky and Artur Rubinstein competitions, performed at the Wigmore Hall in London last night.  Looking like the young Liszt and clearly enjoying what he was doing, he performed a spectacular Chopin 12 Études Opus 10.  It was as if his fingers were  transformed into molten liquid as they danced and spun along the keyboard of his Fazoli piano.  The audience went wild and Trifanov responded with some amazing encores.  Don’t miss an opportunity to see this outstanding and brilliant young musician perform.
